UPDATE | Summer Vacation To Do List 2015

A list of fun things to do this summer, full of activities that are free and toddler friendly

How is it that summer vacation is almost half over already?? We’re almost to my birthday at the end of July, and that’s historically my mental half over marker.

Are you having a good summer so far? Do you have super hot weather like we do here in NC? Or do you have a wet, cool summer (jealous)?

I thought I’d check in on how we’re doing with the Summer Bucket List. And I’m doing this mainly for my own benefit (I should have printed off this list to remember!)

What we’ve done so far:

  • Plan Hookie Weekends – they got locked into our calendar and we’ve already done two! This needs to be a monthly tradition.
  • Visit the Farmers’ Market – did it. Loved it. And, in fact, there were several of our favorite food trucks there, so it kind of knocked the food truck rodeo one off the list, without the crushing crowds!
  • Organize Play Dates – I’ve organized a few, BUT thankfully others have this sweet idea on their bucket list too, and we’ve been fairly busy with play dates.

So…. that’s not really much, is it? No. BUT it still so far feels like quite the full summer with plenty to do.

Here’s what I’ve got in the works:

  • Visit every city park – We’ve already visited about 10 or so parks to scope them out. I realized, though, that this is kind of a hard one to check off when it’s 90+ degrees outside.
  • Go to the Zoo – it’s hard to get motivated to go to the zoo when it’s so hot outside… BUT I did discover a smaller zoo about an hour away (doubles as a in-state road trip!) that gets kids more up close to animals and is cheaper. Win!
  • Road Trips – I mentioned last time I wanted to do a in-state and out-of-state road trip. We’ve got a road trip to Michigan coming up in August (check!), and I just need to plan some fun for in-state, and put it on the calendar.

With the second half of summer about to start, I need to grab my calendar and plan days to knock a few more out of the park. Good thing I’ve become more productive lately.

How are your plans for this summer going? Checking some fun things off? Even if you don’t have the summer off, like the good ol’ days, try to plan a few special things!

Yay for the zoo and city parks. I wish we lived somewhere that it didn’t get so darn hot in the summer. I still plan on spending plenty of time outdoors, though. 🙂

I just hate the hot weather, so I’ve been finding ways to do activities at new indoor places. But getting out early is always key… which is hard when you have a 9-5!

I’ve crossed two of my summer “must-do’s” off my list. Every summer I drive out a ways towards the mountains and get a big load of SC peaches. We’re enjoying those this week! The other one is having ice cream at an old school ice cream parlor here in town. My sister loves to visit there every time she’s in town. Yummy summer traditions! 🙂

Hey girl! Sounds like you are keeping pretty busy in your summer so far. We totally forgot to add the zoo to our summer bucket list. So far we’ve gone to the waterpark and had a blast although I did slip in fall and injured my back. Boohoo right. Anyways.. we have a trip next month for a family reunion. Can’t wait to see everyone.
Have a happy birthday hun! I hope your wishes all come true. We have lots of birthdays in july too, its like a summer christmas!

Summer Christmas! I love that idea 🙂 I always declare on July 1 that we have now entered my Birth Month. HA! I love the idea of a water park! That would be tons of fun, and was always on my bucket list as a kid. Are you feeling better??? Ugh, what an ender to a fun water park trip, right??

I really need to mark off a few more items from our list too. Like the play date one. Summers going to pass us by without doing that if I’m not careful :).

At least you have some stuff scheduled and plenty of summer left to do the rest.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

That’s what I’m telling myself! Plenty of summer left, and quite a few will be easy to knock out as long as I schedule it 🙂 Isn’t summer fun?

Making a point to visit every city park is a great idea. We get in a rut and keep going to the same two because we’re familiar with them. I really do need to see what else is out there. My bucket list is to pack more picnics.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

      Picnics! What a great idea!

There have definitely been a few “let’s just drive by to scope out this park” because we don’t have time, but we’re trying to at least check them out so we know what’s out there. We discovered one last week that had a splash ground AND a sand box! Win!

What a good idea to make a list like that! We’ve got the Farmers market and carnival on our list 🙂 if you want an out of state road trip/zoo trip you should come to the St Louis Zoo! I love it! Or Cincinnati zoo is pretty neat because you can pay like $3 to feed the giraffes and things!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

A carnival?? That would be such fun! I’ve been to both of those zoos before and they are really fantastic!!
