High Five for Friday #79 | My Thumbs Hurt

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by me, Tif, and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

This week’s featured blogger is Emily from A Little Bit of Emily! I love the blogging style she uses – it feels like you’re just chatting with a friend about everyday life! She recently shared her July Goals, and if you want a tasty treat to make this weekend, check out this awesome recipe for her mom’s Homemade Chex Mix snack. Swing over and give a hearty H54F Hello!

This week was a much better week than last week. Shoot! I even got an extra blog post out! Win.

1. One thing that keeps us super busy each week is play dates! It’s a Mommy’s survival. We had one Monday and Wednesday. And then Elizabeth has school again on Tuesday and Thursday. So you can imagine, today, we’re just excited to be home and not needing to rush out the door ASAP. HA!

2. I’ve been noticing William is starting to leave the newborn phase and is starting to become a baby. He’ll be 2 months old next week and we’re just one month away from the 4th Trimester being over. He’s awake more often and smiling. He loves laying on his play mat every evening. He is also sleeping longer at night (hooray!). Not to mention his hair is growing. And it makes me smile 🙂

3. So my thumb joints are SUPER sore! Why? This week I started going to exercise classes. I don’t know WHY I signed up for this, but I signed up for boot camp-style classes. Why? Who knows… I’m more of a low-sweat girl. But I’m actually surprised I like them! This particular franchise is women only, and there are so many different women in this class of all ages, fitness levels, and stamina. So as a girl who is 7 weeks post partum, I don’t feel like the odd duck there. I feel comfortable to go at my own pace, but still feeling motivated to “compete” with the person next to me. I go to the 5am class, which I realize sound crazy, but there is nothing better than coming back home, after working out, and your family, kids included, is still upstairs asleep. Bliss! I went Wednesday for the first time and then again this morning. I was SORE Thursday, understandably. But I think my thumbs are sore because of all the floor exercises. They just aren’t used to that level of exertion.

4. On a blog note, I’ve realized it’s really hard to find quiet time to sit down and film, let alone time to edit. So I’ve been thinking about once a week jumping on FB Live to just chat, OR even using…. SnapChat. FB Live seems more my style (you know I can talk) but I need to think about some loose topics, or else it will quickly get boring. Anything you want me to chat about?

5. 9 years ago today my husband and I were married! We got married in Columbus (technically Worthington) Ohio, in the same church I grew up in. It was one of the most laid back weddings ever, even though it was a fairly large, formal wedding. Nothing really went wrong (except that an aunt got left behind at the hotel and had to take a cab to the wedding) and we had a great time! We aren’t planning on any big celebrations, but we do have a baby sitter tonight and we’re headed out to eat! Hooray!

What was your highlight from the week? Can’t wait to hear about it!

I just started a boot camp style workout class this week, too! My thumbs aren’t sore, but every other body part is! Yikes! My legs are jello! You are so right though, there’s nothing better than coming home to a quiet house. Yesterday I got more done before 8 AM than I did the rest of the day!
Happy Anniversary! I hope you have a great time celebrating!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I’m still not confident as to why my thumbs hurt but it’s from the workout. Maybe slinging those heavy ropes around??? But it is a good workout!! And every other body part was jello too. Mercy! Hope you have a great weekend!!

  2. Amanda Bullard says:

Oh how I agree with you about the early morning work outs. Coming home to a quiet and peaceful house after a good work out is shear joy for me. I don’t plan to restart my early morning work outs until September but man just thinking about that feeling makes me SMILE! Annnnd – happy happy anniversary! Enjoy your date night! xoxox Amanda

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Haha thank you!!! And glad I’m not the only one who gets a kick out of the early am workouts!! So satisfying. Hard to roll out and do it right away but happy when it’s done.

  3. Shelly says:

Happy Anniversary! Bootcamp style is really my faovrite and I’ve made some really great friends of all ages. I agree the 5am workouts are hard to get to but so worth it. Plus then you are done for the day! I’ve been such a slacker this summer.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I really just like that I’m done. It’s so motivating. And I think that if I do nothing else the rest of the day I at least worked out!! Have a great weekend!

  4. Jess says:

Happy anniversary!! Good for you for going to Bootcamp at 5 AM! I can hardly wrap my head around such a thing, although I have been thinking about going back to the gym because I’m actually enjoying physical therapy and seeing the progress that I’ve made, strength-wise! I guess you need to start strength training those thumbs! ;D Have a great weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I need to text more. Haha! I’m still not sure why my thumbs were so sore but it was a comical result. Have a great weekend too!

  5. Nancy says:

Happy Anniversary! And I can understand why you get up at 5 AM to EXERCISE but I still think it’s crazy! (LOL!!) Good for you though! Have a great dinner and weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Oh it’s crazy haha!! But I’m pretty confident it’s the only time I’d get it done. Ha! Thank you!

  6. Ashley S. says:

Happy anniversary! I am glad that you get to enjoy an evening out together. I think that it is great that you are doing a bootcamp. That sounds like my style of bootcamp! Have a great weekend!

  7. Whitney says:

Yes! Please do Facebook live! There’s no editing or uploading and then we all get to hear what’s going on in Katie’s world. 🙂 Happy Anniversary – I hope you had a great night out!

  8. Beverly says:

Wow, 5 a.m. workouts are impressive! Mornings are challenging enough for me without exercise. I feel accomplished after getting my workout in, but it’s usually afternoon when I’m at my best.

Hope your anniversary was lovely! A special night out is fun, more so sometimes when it’s low-key. 🙂
