Menu Monday #38 + Pantry Staples for Quick Meals

ListCloseUp

Hello Hello!! So glad you’re here, and hope you had a wonderful weekend! Our weekend here in Durham, NC was so warm. It was 70 yesterday! We spent most of the day outside running around.

This week’s menu isn’t really a menu. About once a month I have to do a random, hodge podge menu to help whittle down my freezer reserves. It drives me bonkers when I have a full freezer!

But, even though this week we are eating through the backlog, there is still a grocery shopping trip this week. Some things we just have to buy, regardless of the menu. These things help fill out the bits and bobs we have lingering in the pantry and freezer, and help me make meals!

Some of my favorite “must buy” items are:

Milk
Shredded Cheese (usually cheddar)
Eggs
Plain Greek Yogurt
Sandwich bread for husband’s lunches
Tortillas
Tortilla Chips
Black Beans
Salsa
Onion
Fruit
Cilantro
Extra veggies I may not have on hand (fresh or frozen)
Coffee & Tea, as needed

What are things that you HAVE to buy, regardless of menu?? There were such wonderful suggestions when we talked about fast meals! I’m really excited to hear what you do!

We did a freezer clean-out last week too. It’s amazing how quickly those over the fridge units get overloaded!

Every week I buy fruit, salad items, bread for sandwiches, milk and coffee creamer. Not super exciting but very necessary!

Our usual “must buy” items include milk, eggs, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, potatoes, fruit, bread and pasta. I can usually add these items to breakfast and dinner recipes pretty easily!

Shredded cheese and tortillas are on my list too. Spaghetti and tacos are kind of my emergency, go-to meals. Sliced cheese, bread, and butter for grilled cheese lunches are a must. And I always have lots of meat in the freezer. I hoard flour and sugar and other basic baking ingredients for when the mood strikes, haha. I like to have fruit on hand, vegetables usually have to be planned or else they sit around and go bad. 😉

We have very similar must have lists! We’re also big fans of Mexican food. Also on my list are chocolate and frozen yogurt, or ice cream. 😉

HAHA I try to avoid sweets and snacks at all costs, because I would literally have them sitting out, on my lap, and I would consume the whole thing!! But yes, we could do Mexican food every. single. night.

Bananas, milk, eggs, bread, cereal and shredded sharp cheddar are usually on my must buy lists. I’m wrapping up a pantry clean out and it feels refreshing 🙂 I was hoarding things for too long so we are having some random meals to make way for new foods.

That’s what I’m hoping! Clearing out the pantry is like a wardrobe capsule – you’re forced to make something new!
