High Five for Friday – The Really Cold Edition

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Caitlin, Tif and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

This week’s featured blogger is Jayme from Simply, Always, Forever!Β She’s a huge book fan, so I know I’ll definitely visit often to check out her book recommendations! Plus, she went to school in my current neck of the woods at Duke, so we’re already kindred spirits πŸ™‚ Be sure to stop by and say hi!! So glad you’ve been linking up with us, Jayme!Jayme From Simply, Always, Forever

Here’s what I was up to this week:

1.Β Can anyone else believe it’s Friday? This was the fastest week in history. YET, it was the slowest…. anyone else get house-bound by snow, ice and cold weather? While I have no problems driving in snow or ice, the rest of the locals here are not… so I chose to stay home most of the week. And enjoy the pretty snow from the comfort of my house! This was our backyard on Wednesday!

But with snow and ice come “Elizabeth’s First Snow Action” pictures! In all fairness, she did experience her first snow last year at 4 months…

Which doesn’t count. But she absolutely LOVED standing in the snow on Monday! And watching it from the window. AND playing in the snow! Until she slipped and fell. Then it was not so fun πŸ™‚

2. Our furnace decided, with the cold weather and all, that it was a great time to conk out. When I walked into Elizabeth’s room Wednesday morning, it was so cold! Not something you want to deal with when the day’s high is supposed to be 15*! But all’s well now… thank goodness!

3. I mentioned Monday that we were trying a 5 Dinner Plan from a local catering company. Basically 5 dinners with salad and dessert, for $100. So far (our last meal is tonight), it’s been a good experience, and I’d definitely do it again! It is nice not to worry about what to make for dinner. However, I found myself missing cooking by the end of the week. Β The grass is always greener! But full review coming next week.

4. We finished our latest Netflix series – Lilyhammer. It was so funny!! It took a few episodes to get into it, but it’s just so quirky. Basically, NYC mafia guy rats out other mafia guys, and gets put into witness protection program. He requests to be placed in Lilyhammer, Norway, with all those polite, calm, mild mannered Scandinavians. Gold! But now that’s over, we’re searching for something new. We’ve started Mad Men, and then balancing that out with Friends (which we haven’t really watched much of before!). If you have any Netflix recommendations, let me know!! We’re basically just buying time until House of Cards comes out, anyway.

5. I had a number 5………………… and then I forgot………………… ugh…. obnoxious. Oh well…..

We have so much snow and my brother who lives in Boston got even more. I think this year is the record breaking amount of inches. They don’t even know where to put it haha. I love those pictures of your little one how adorable!!! I’m glad she had some fun until she fell poor thing πŸ™

Oh man – the Northeast always gets hit hard. Our cold, wintery weather here in NC is nothing compared to that! I remember being at O’Hare Airport once, watching them shovel the excess snow into heaters that melted it all. Pretty amazing! Have a great weekend – stay warm!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Oh thank you! Thankfully, my husband has become quite the photographer. I get Elizabeth to smile, and he snaps the pic πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend yourself! Thanks for linking up!!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

It was! There was more ice than snow, but still enjoyable! Our part of North Carolina really only gets one good snow a year, so you enjoy it while you can πŸ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Thank you! And she did! She’s been asking to go outside to play every day since then πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend yourself!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Thanks for linking up! πŸ™‚ The furnace thing…. sigh…. it could have been much worse, I guess!! But it’s super warm now!

  2. Whitney says:

I’m glad you all were able to enjoy some winter weather! I think kids look so cute bundled up to play in the snow. I’m with you – I’d enjoy a break from cooking while at the same time missing it! πŸ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I kind of want to get one of those Michelin Man type snow suits for next year – so if she falls, no big deal. But she won’t be able to use her arms πŸ˜‰ Yes, the break from dinners are nice, but I find myself itching to do some baking to compensate!!

  3. Nicole says:

Cute pictures! It looks like your daughter really enjoyed the snow! I’m a little jealous πŸ˜‰ Up here in the NW, it’s been in the 50’s and 60’s and spring is definitely here. Glad you got your furnace working! That is no fun when those things go out! When we lived in Arizona our air conditioner went out on the hottest day of the year (Over 110*!) luckily my electrician uncle was able to fix it! Lilyhammer sounds good! I am always looking for new things to watch on Netflix! Broadchurch is really good if you haven’t seen that. It’s a murder mystery set in a small town in England.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I’ve had my eye on Broadchurch! And oh mercy me! No AC… that would be absolutely horrible. The furnace wasn’t too bad – we can always put on more clothes, and use more blankets! But AC? ick. Lilyhammer is quirky! It took a few episodes to get into it. But the premise of a mobster in Norway was just hilarious!!!

  4. Catherine Short says:

I thought I was equipped to drive in snow/ice coming from Chicago, but Nashville is really hilly and do not plow/or ice. I got stuck going up a hill and decided I needed to limit my driving as much as possible.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Yes, I learned to drive in Michigan. It’s a whole other ball game in NC! Just like in Nashville, they don’t plow the roads here very well or quickly. And NC always gets more ice than snow. I can drive in snow any day, but not ice!!! Hope your weekend is warmer!

  5. Heather My Little HEA says:

Oh gosh Elizabeth is absolutely so cute in all her pink! I don’t watch a lot of new stuff on Netflix, just some old favorites like Sons of Anarchy and Gossip Girl. I’m looking at watching Friday Night Lights this Summer and maybe Gilmore Girls from the beginning if it’s on during that time. That Dinner plan sounds kind of great, I’ll be looking forward to your full review! Have a great weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I definitely watch a lot of reruns too πŸ™‚ But some old stuff is new to us, like Friends HAHA! I don’t know what we’d do without Netflix! Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!! Thanks for linking up with us!

  6. Whitney says:

That picture of you and Elizabeth must be FRAMED! What a sweet little face πŸ™‚ Glad you’ve enjoyed your catered dinners this week. Hope you thaw out a bit for the weekend. There are talks of snow next week in Mississippi, but I’m not counting on it. I think Olive would love it though πŸ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Thank you!!! We are two little peas in a pod with the same large, cheesy smile πŸ™‚ I enjoyed our smattering of snow and cold weather! It’s been nice to look at the snow. Hopefully if y’all get some it will be a nice dusting – pretty to watch, but won’t mess up your roads so you can still go places!! Have a great weekend!

  7. Kate says:

Okay, favorite Netflix shows…where do I even begin??

My husband and I do our fair share of Netflix bingeing…so let’s see, our all time favorite show is probably Chuck. They have 5 seasons and it is truly incredible. We also have watched Psych, How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Scandal, Orange is the New Black, and Scrubs. Any/all of them are fantastic!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Love Scrubs! My husband can’t watch it, since he’s a doc, because he says its the most “lifelike” of all the Doctor shows. Which, frankly, is a little frightening πŸ™‚ But Chuck, Psych and HIMYM are on my watch list. I’ve heard they’re all fabulous! Thanks for the recommendations!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

A week off from cooking was pretty great. Definitely missed it a little, but not much πŸ˜‰ Hope you had a great weekend too!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

She did have a lot of fun in the snow, thanks!! And the week off was very delightful. I’ll definitely do that again πŸ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Thank you! And it did warm up over the weekend, and all the snow melted. Just in time for it to start again today πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Dorrie says:

I can’t believe all the snow ya’ll have been getting! I’m from Maine (family is still there) and it’s just astonishing. The last I heard, they had gotten something like 99 inches in 20 days in the area that I’m from. And that was days ago- apparently they’ve gotten more since! -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Oh my goodness! That’s a lot of snow. Thankfully in North Carolina we are nowhere near that record. But it does feel a lot colder and snowier than the past few years!

  9. Andrea at The Pineapple Cake says:

Your little one is so cute!! And the backyard is gorgeous with all that snow.
So call me crazy, but when I was living in Philly I wouldn’t turn my heater on in the winter unless I had people over. Sometimes I opened the window while it was snowing. I don’t know what it is but something about having heaps of blankets and warm drinks made me not mind the cold weather.

I’ll have to add Lilyhammer to our netflix list, it’s finally coming to Australia next month and we are beyond excited to have more to watch than the news and game shows. πŸ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

JUST now getting Netflix? Mercy me! Well then you’ve got plenty of TV watching in your future πŸ™‚

I don’t think that’s crazy at all! I’ve been there, done that πŸ™‚ Plus, when it’s snowing, everything is just peaceful and quiet. Love the non-sound of snow!
