High Five for Friday #67 | Ticks + Donuts

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by me, Tif, and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

This week’s featured blogger is Nina from A World of Dresses! She is (no surprise!) a fashion fan and shares that passion on her blog. Love this description of her blog purpose: “I love that as a blogger, I get to be the media. Instead of the media telling me what to wear, I let the women I feature on the site dictate what womanhood means.” SO inspirational! We need more blogging voices like Nina! Swing over and say hello!

This week went by fast AND I took zero interesting pictures…. Oops!

1. Where did this week go? I swear, these weeks are flying by. I’m busy! But I feel like nothing ends up getting done. So strange. I’ve already declared I’m not allowed to complain I’m tired (who isn’t tired?) so I’ll complain that I’m uncomfortable. 5 weeks left, and just walking around has become a challenge. One of my sweet neighbors commented last week “Well now you’re walking like you’re pregnant”. (So kind, right?) But, overall, this has been a simple pregnancy.

2. So last weekend was one of those rare weekends where there wasn’t something going on. It was so nice!  Just your average weekend. Until Saturday night… I was getting ready to take a shower, and felt something on my back. I thought it was a scab, and when I feel a scab, I instantly start picking at it. I have bad scab habits. Anyway, I couldn’t scratch it off! And it was on a spot on my back where I couldn’t see… so I go tearing out to my husband and ask him what’s on my back… it was a TICK!!! BLEH! I’ve never had a tick, ever. He tried to get it off, but couldn’t get its head out. So it’s still implanted in my back. I’ve been milking it for all it’s worth – don’t feel like cooking? It’s because I have a tick in my back. Prefer to just lay on the sofa? It’s because of the tick. Best thing that’s ever happened to me. (sarcasm)

3. Thursday we stopped off at Krispy Kreme to pick up a celebratory donut because Elizabeth made it through her school morning with zero accidents! She is accident free at home, BUT at school? Every. Single. Time. I think it was because she’d announce she needed to go potty in her usual quiet voice, and the teachers wouldn’t hear her! So yesterday before school we worked on saying it LOUD. And it helped! So celebratory donut is necessary.

4. Speaking of Potty Training, I think we can though officially declare it done. Being “potty trained” doesn’t mean zero accidents. Just means she gets it and does it mostly. At least in my mind… but we survived it! And we could very well back slide and have a rough patch, but we’re good now! The Potty Training vlog will be up next week. I started editing it and it’s hilarious/horrifying.

5. This weekend is great! We’ve got dinner with friends tonight, then church and a big potluck with church friends Saturday post-church, and THEN sweet friends who have moved away are coming Sunday! AND it’s my husband’s birthday tomorrow. It’s a high weekend!

What were you up to this week? Let me know!

  1. Whitney says:

Oh my. I would totally freak out until I was rid of the tick. That’s quite the story, my friend!!! Poor Elizabeth, she will be glad to learn she won’t always have to shout her need to use the potty. Toddler problems. 🙂 Yay for potty training success!! Cheers!!

    Enjoy your big weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

The shouting thing has its drawbacks… Good for at school, not so great when we are out to eat or at church haha! Last week at church, during a quiet moment, she loudly declared, with urgency, “mommy!! I have to go to the potty!” Haha! Have a good weekend too!

  2. Stefanie says:

The story about the tick made me cringe! I got my first tick ever when I was pregnant, too. They are so bad lately!!!
I’m sorry you’re feeling uncomfortable. Not too much longer! XOXO I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. Nicole says:

Yikes! I would freak out too if I had a tick! But then again, my mom has lyme disease (and had for over 12 years before being diagnosed!) you might want to get it checked out!
Hooray for Elizabeth being potty trained! Mostly it sounds like 😉
It sounds like you have a great weekend planned! Have fun! 🙂

  4. Jess says:

OMG I would have totally lost it if I’d had a tick on me!! That has never happened to me before, and I’d like it to stay that way! I’m terrified of bugs, so my shrieking would make any tick instantly regret choosing me as a host, haha. Yay Elizabeth, yay donuts!! Hope you guys have a great weekend (and that you feel any better/less uncomfortable!)!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Hahaha I had a funny time imaging shrieking sending ticks running in the other direction!!! Hilarious! If only that would work. Hope you have a great weekend too!

  5. Amanda says:

Wait a second….you need that tick head out. I mean Lyme’s Disease?!?! Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever?!?!?!?! Am I the only one alarmed here?!?! Cue Elizabeth to start shouting now!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Well it was what had me wondering too… But Doctor Husband read a few official journals and decided my risk was minimal for reasons I zoned out on. Thankfully it’s been almost a week and I’m feeling normal (well… For a pregnant woman anyway!). Elizabeth screamed this morning so she was reading your mind ? have a great weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

We are basically there with potty training!! Woohoo! It will be such a fun weekend! Hope you all have a great weekend too!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I was freaking out at first but then surprisingly calm. But ick. It was a first that I don’t want repeated!

  6. Meg says:

Happy Birthday to your husband. Also, I hate ticks. They are the creepiest things ever and I would be equally horrified as you were. Have a great weekend!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

My tip is “there are no tips” haha!!! Seriously everyone has different experiences and tips so I figured there is no method to the madness!

  7. Ashley says:

Okay…. We just started having ticks in our area in the last few years and they freak me out so much!!!! Ack! I commend your bravery. I am sure I would have had a heart attack! I am glad that your potty training went well! Good work! Have a great weekend!

  8. Tif says:

Yay for potty training success! Also, what about this tick? What are you going to do? Will you have to get it removed surgically? I think I’d be having a minor freakout. . .ok, major freakout. Hope you all had a great time celebrating his birthday!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Dr. Husband wasn’t too concerned so I decided not to be too hahaha! But when I think about it it IS gross!!
