Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Caitlin, Tif and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here! According to WordPress, this is our 25th week of hosting H54F! How exciting! Thank you all so much for being with us and just being all around awesome bloggers! I’ve so enjoyed getting to know you all better.
Hope your week was just dandy! On to what we were up to this week!
1. The. Weather. I know I’ve mentioned a million times that I dislike the heat, but this week just seemed particularly unbearable. We finally got some rain and a cool down yesterday, but still. Mother Nature – can you back off a little, please??
2. We had some serious backyard work done earlier this week. We have a pretty heavily wooded backyard, but you can’t really see it well because of a line of privacy trees right up against our back lawn. Several of those trees died, so we did some removal. What a difference! We lost trees up close, but now we can really see the woods in the back! It’s great. We’re already planning a little landscaping to tie it all together.
3. Speaking of landscaping – since we were in a yard mood, Elizabeth and I went to our local garden center and brought home some flowers to plant! We planted some Wednesday (forgot to snap a pic!) and have a few more containers to finish today. I’ll try to remember to pop a pic on Instagram!
4. For the last few weeks I’ve been heading out on massive morning walks with a friend. We push our strollers around and chat. Apparently, thanks to her Fitbit, we walk about 5 miles each time! That’s what gabbing will do! So it’s been really nice. I may be completely melted by the time I get home, but it’s been a nice change to the routine.
5. It’s been a pretty rough week emotionally. I’m not one to get all sentimental, but as I’ve gotten older, it’s hard to make friends, to only have to say goodbye later on. Especially in this world of medicine. First College, then Med School, then end of residency, and NOW end of fellowship…. We had to say goodbye to several precious friends this week, and good golly – my heart is sad. But, as my husband says, all this scattering of friends means that no matter where we travel for vacation, there will always be someone to visit!
Oh, sorry to end on such a sad note….. to make up for it, here are a few pics from Father’s Day!

The weather here has actually been really mild this week and that’s so strange for southern Indiana summers! Congrats on getting all that yard work and landscaping done. I hate to do stuff like that but it really does make a difference!
Can I trade your mild weather for my scorching hot/humid weather?? Please?? 🙂
Love linking up as usual 🙂
Thank you for hosting!!!
And thank YOU for linking up!!! So glad you join us 🙂
Oh my goodness I love that crab picture. It is so cute. And her dress is adorable as well.
I’m so grateful the picture turned out alright. It looked pretty sad until we changed it from a handprint to a crab 🙂
Not only is making friends harder as an adult, but it’s also like impossible to make time/coordinate to see the friends you do have! Being a grown up is the worst. :-/
Oh so true!!! Finding time and getting everyone together is so hard too. And if you don’t make the effort you feel like you’re missing out. Ugh…
I’m sorry you’re having to say goodbye to friends. That’s never any fun.
My husband is finishing his PhD and it has been so sad to watch as more and more of our friends have left this college town.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Yes – you totally get it. The slow trickle has been the hardest. Hope you’ve had a great weekend too!
It’s so hard saying goodbye. This happened to me after law school. My friends were scattered everywhere. I’m so thankful for today’s technology that allows us to connect and communicate!

Truly, thank goodness for FaceTime and Facebook to allow me to see faces. 🙂
I can really relate to making new friends and then everyone scattering! That’s been the story of my life the last 5 years. So many sweet friends now scattered all over the country. It can be tricky to make friends as an adult, but I always remind myself that the effort is well worth it. We are hoping this means fun vacation destinations in the future. ((HUGS))
So true – the effort is absolutely worth it! I need to be telling myself this over the next few weeks… thank you!
Having yard work done is so rewarding! I bet you’ll enjoy the yard so much more now. Elizabeth is so pretty! She has the sweetest face. 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you 🙂 I think she’s pretty cute too! And with our cooler weather this weekend we’ve just been enjoying the backyard landscaping so much!
Our weather has been nothing but RAIN for 2 solid weeks. It’s killing me! The kids are insane and need to get outside!
Oh man! The constant rain is just tough. At least with heat you can still get outside – you suffer, but you’re outside. Hope it lets up soon!!
So sorry to hear that you’ve had to say goodbye to so many friends. I love your husband’s take on it though — very true! 😉 I hope you are able to take some trips in the future and enjoy happy reunions with these precious friends. Love that you’ve been out walking and talking lately — that’s the best kind of exercise in my book!! 😀 Very sweet Father’s Day snapshots! Elizabeth’s handmade gift turned out sooo cute!! Wishing your sweet family a lovely weekend!! xo – Brenda // Chatting Over Chocolate
We were just saying there should be an app that takes your FB friends and creates a road trip based on where your friends are all located. It would be so cool! Hope you had a great weekend too!
I am sorry you had a rough week. Goodbyes are never easy. Your daughter is adorable! I love the Father’s Day gift that you crafted. Very cute! I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Thank you! And goodbyes aren’t fun… but just makes the hellos tons of fun and a great thing to look forward to! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Goodbyes are not fun! I’m so thankful for technology.
The little crab Father’s Day craft turned out so cute!
Yes, technology is the one thing that’s saving me. Thank goodness!
I’m with you, I can’t stand this heat. It’s been really rough on Raylan’s Asthma. I love the Father’s Day Painting Elizabeth made. It’s too cute. I hope you are having a great weekend friend.
Thank you! I hope you had a wonderful weekend too!
