Hey Hey! It’s Friday!

Friday! I swear, this was the FASTEST week ever.  At one point (I think Wednesday?) I actually struggled to remember what day of the week it was… weird.

Here’s what I was up to this week:

1. Elizabeth is just ZOOMING with her crawling.  It’s so cute to watch her.  We actually played the “Peek at Each Other Around the Coffee Table” game (this game has always made me laugh, even as an adult!) yesterday, and my life is now complete.  I posted her first crawl on Instagram, if you want to see a small child with a VERY pleased/proud look on her face.  But now that’s she’s mobile, she’s exploring new places:

2. Speaking of Instagram, I posted about my newest impulse buy from J. Crew Factory.  I am OBSESSED with this new shirt. And I’ve heard so much about the GiGi pant, that when I saw it was on sale, I snagged it.  Love it as well!

3. I got together with my girlfriends on Thursday for our usual Mommy Lunch/Playgroup. I haven’t seen these ladies for weeks, and I literally woke up yesterday excited for some adult conversation (kid-approved conversation… not THAT kind of adult conversation…).

4. I made the Spicy Basil Tofu AND the Drunken Noodles from this week’s Menu Monday.  Quote from my husband – “We’ve been married almost 7 years, and you’re JUST now venturing into the Thai genre??”  Bottom line – they were both delicious.  It was actually easier than I expected.  The meals took about 15 minutes to put together.  Can’t beat that!

5. Y’all – my recap of the first 6 outfits of my 30 Outfits in 30 Days challenge went up yesterday.  Truth time – this is such a fun, but challenging series for me.  Not only just coming up with 30 unique outfits, but it’s SO awkward to have your face plastered all over… but you’re seeing real life – hair pulled up, a little makeup (but not enough to cover those dark circles!), and just trying to make the current wardrobe exciting again!  The next 6 days will be up on Thursday next week!  Stay tuned!

First 6 days are done for the 30 Outfits in 30 Days Challenge!  If you’re not sure what’s up, you can read more here.  But, long story short: I chose 30 items from my closet, and challenged myself to make 30 unique outfits for the next 30 days!

Here are my thoughts from this week’s outfits.

Most Worn Item | Definitely my skinny jeans.  They are so comfortable! (Yes… still maternity jeans, but where can you find comfy jeans like that?)

Favorite Outfit | It’s a toss up between Day 2 and Day 6.  I’ve done Day 2 before, and love it each time.  But the pink shirt in Day 6 surprised me! It’s been a while since I rolled it out, and I really like the hot pink with the peach necklace.

Least Favorite Outfit | Hands down Day 4!  Not sure if it’s the outfit itself, or the way it photographs/looks on me.

This Week’s Surprise |  Man, I apparently only like pictures of myself looking down 🙂  HAHA!  And putting on a jacket makes me happy.  Too bad it’s 95 here today.

Hardest Thing About This Week | It’s SUPER awkward taking photos of yourself.  A few times I’ve looked at the pictures and thought “seriously… that’s what that shirt looks like on me?? Bleh.”.  Oh well.

Below are each day’s outfits, along with links for each item OR a similar item.

What’s in My Diaper Bag for a 6 – 9 Month Old

Skip Hop Duo French Stripe at Cup of Tea blog
Woohoo!  This is my favorite kind of content!  I love getting a chance to see all the fun things moms carry in their diaper bag for the baby, as well as getting a tour of some amazing diaper bags!

The last time I did this, my daughter was 3 months old.  I was also carrying the Skip Hop Studio bag.  I LOVE that bag!  But, the main compartment zipper busted.  I contacted Skip Hop to see what could be done, and they sent me a voucher to either replace the Studio bag, or purchase another one.  (Isn’t that awesome customer service???)

So I decided, why not?  Buy a new one!  I opted for the Skip Hop Duo in French Stripe.  I’m obsessed with stripes, and this was just so darn cute!  I still use the Skip Hop Studio bag (in fact, I prefer it over the French Stripe), but the Duo is great for casual day trips!

It’s main compartment holds a ton!  I also love the versatility of the handles – the leather grab handles are great, and the messenger-style strap is VERY convenient!  And those side bottle pouches (one on each side!) hold our 8oz wide mouth Dr. Brown’s bottles easily.

If you want a looky-loo at what I’m currently carrying in the diaper bag for my 8 month old, then grab a hot drink and queue up the video!

Also, enquiring minds want to know what I carry in my Coach zippered cosmetic bag.  I call this my Mommy Essentials bag, because it holds all my little doodads in one spot, instead of floating around in the diaper bag.  It also makes it convenient to transfer my things when I’m changing out handbags (hardly ever happens these days!).

20140617-143712-52632761.jpg

I’ve got the basics – hand sanitizer, hand lotion, tissues, bandaids, as well as a variety of hair items for emergencies.  I also carry around a few tea bags (duh), an iPhone charger car adapter, a travel mirror, as well as a variety of lip balms.  I am a HUGE fan of tinted lip balms.  I’ve never really been a lip stick girl, so tinted lip balms give me a hint of color without looking too done.

So that’s it!  What do you carry around in your diaper bag?  What’s your diaper bag of choice these days?  Is it even a diaper bag?!  I’d love to hear all about it!

Daily & Weekly Cleaning Schedule

Weekly Cleaning Schedule | Cup of Tea blog

One of the hardest things for me, each week, is keeping up with housekeeping.  It’s one of those things that I put off if there are other things that have to get done.

Please tell me I’m not the only one?

So to help me stay motivated and not overwhelmed each week, I divide out all the household tasks and try to spread them out, so one day isn’t a massive cleaning day.  Cleaning tasks are also something I can do when Elizabeth is awake and playing.  I save blogging and other computer work for when she is naps.

I found this really cool Day-of-the-Week notepad in the dollar section of Target.  It has a magnet on the back, and lives on the side of my refrigerator.  As you can see, it’s got a mix of housekeeping items on there, as well as weekly, repeating to-dos.

Weekly To Dos Notepad from Target | Cup of Tea blog

Every Sunday, I do my Menu Planning/Grocery List, Blog Planning and Cleaning Planning for the coming week.  I sit down with this little notepad and write in the cleaning schedule.  I put the cleaning/repeat tasks in each daily square, and write from the bottom up.

Then I add, from the top down, in each daily square, any errands or appointments that are coming up.  Sorry you don’t get to see that.  (Nosey Nancy!)

So here’s my weekly cleaning schedule, in a little more detail!

Monday
Laundry – Load of Darks
Vacuum Downstairs
Iron

Tuesday
Dust Upstairs (Includes all shutters and baseboards)
Vacuum Upstairs (Includes under dressers and beds)
Laundry – Load of Lights/Whites

Wednesday
Laundry – Load of Towels
Clean Bathrooms (Toilet, Shower, Sinks/Counters, Mop Floor)
Empty Trashcans (Includes mini trash cans in bathrooms & the diaper pail)
Laundry – Baby Stuff

Thursday
Dust Downstairs (Includes all shutters and baseboards)
Kitchen Clean (Wipe cabinets, spot clean refrigerator/microwave/oven, scrub sink, polish stainless steel)
Laundry – Load of Darks

Friday
Vacuum Downstairs
Mop High-Traffic Areas
Quick Clean (Just general tidying before the weekend)

Saturday
Nothing – day off of cleaning!

Sunday
Tidy, nothing major
Plan out cleaning for next week

It seems intense, but, honestly, if you tackle a little bit each day, it’s not so overwhelming.

Here are the things that I do every day:

  • Unload the dishwasher in the AM
  • Make the bed
  • Put away any items left on our bathroom counter once I’m done getting ready
  • Then, wipe down our bathroom counter/sink
  • Pick up any clothes my husband left on the floor in our bedroom
  • Pick up any shoes, ties, coats, etc downstairs and take them upstairs
  • Pick up any toys and put away
  • Stack magazines in one spot
  • Go through mail as soon as it comes inside and sort
  • Clean up after every meal
  • Wipe counters after every meal
  • Load dishwasher with dirty dishes as I go throughout the day
  • If the dishwasher gets full in the middle of the day, I run it! Dirty dishes waiting to go in the dishwasher go in the sink, out of sight
  • Start the dishwasher every night before bed

This Daily List looks like a lot, but, honestly, from start to finish this takes me NO MORE than an hour.  And this is spread out throughout the day. This ensures that, even if I did NOTHING from the weekly cleaning schedule, the house at least looks tidy, and we could have people over spontaneously for dinner without me panicking! (That’s my usual benchmark for how the house looks – if a friend popped over, right now, for a cup of tea, would I be ok with that?)

If you work outside of the home every day (been there, done that! I understand!), this is completely manageable.  Tackle the first half in the morning before you leave, then the second half in the evening, right after dinner.  Then after that’s done, curl up with a cup of tea and watch Breaking Bad (our fav show right now).

I hope this is helpful for you!  There are a ton of resources out there for a master cleaning schedule, with daily/weekly/monthly cleaning tasks so major dirt doesn’t pile up.  I’ve pinned some of my favorite schedules, as well as other cleaning/organization tips in Pinterest.  Follow the board if you need a little inspiration. (It’s nice to look at other people’s clean spaces instead of actually cleaning, right??)

Menu Monday!

ListCloseUp

Well, well, Monday.  We meet again.

First, if you follow me on Instagram, you saw on Saturday a video of Elizabeth crawling!!!!!! She just decided to do it, randomly.  Yay her!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Father’s Day for us was quiet.  The doctor hubby was on call on Sunday, meaning he didn’t come home from the hospital until about 6:00, and then had to go BACK in after dinner… so yay for his first Father’s Day…

He did request a pretty awesome dinner.  Last week I made this Spicy Basil Tofu.  O.M.G.  This was AMAZING!  He asked for this again for Father’s Day, and then I also made a batch of Thai Yellow Curry, so our tummies were very happy.  FYI – if you like a saucy Spicy Basil Tofu, that particular recipe is lacking.  When I made it a second time, I tripled the sauce part of the recipe.

Enough chit chat… on to the menu!

If this is your first time visiting for Menu Monday, then welcome!  This is where I share my weekly dinner menu, along with recipes.  We are a vegetarian family, so if you are also meatless, or looking for ideas for a Meatless Monday, then you’re at the right place! For more information on how I menu plan, look at this.

Monday:
Singapore Noodles
From Cook’s Illustrated
(we never got around to eating this last week)

Tuesday:
Greek Tortellini Salad
From Two Peas and Their Pod

Wednesday:
Southwest Pasta
My own little recipe… inspired from one of our favorite restaurants in St. Joseph, MI

Thursday:
Caprese Paninis
No recipe, just tomato, basil, and mozzarella

Friday:
Taco Stuffed Avocados
From Babble.com – the picture looked delightful!

Saturday:
Thai Drunken Noodles
Found on Pinterest

Sunday:
Black Bean Tacos
Because we had them last week, and I was obsessed.

*Grocery stores this week:
Trader Joe’s (it’s actually been a while since I’ve been there!) and the local Asian Market for some thai basil and mushroom soy sauce.
