High Five for Friday + a Lilly for Target Lessons Learned Recap

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Caitlin, Tif and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

Just right off the bat – you can still enter a Lilly for Target Giveaway! Go enter now!! And then come right back! This ends TONIGHT (Friday)!!

This week’s featured blogger is Anne at In Residence! If you’re a regular reader here, the name probably sounds familiar! Just recently, I have been linking up with her Your Spring Style series. Anne and I have been blogging buddies for a while now! She’s on of my daily blog reads. We also have husbands who are in the throws of medicine residencies (her hubby is almost done!!) AND our kiddos are just days apart. Anne has regular series on capsule wardrobes, books she’s currently reading (I basically add each one to my library reading list), and a fun Pin to Present series! Go over and say hi!!

Anyway, here’s what I was up to this week!

1. Lilly for Target. Can we have a collective sigh? I wasn’t all that successful…. I basically missed the whole online part because the site was down, and when I decided to show up at Target 2 minutes after the store opening, everything was gone! But somehow, one week later, I’ve got a lot of stuff now! I think, now that the dust has settled, I have: 1 toddler dress, 1 clutch, 1 makeup bag, 1 nail polish, 1 shift dress, 1 bracelet AND THE MUGS! (Which is really what I wanted out of everything!)

What I got from Lilly for Target

When a big shopping event comes along, here are my tips that have worked for me:

  1. Employ a friend that’s REALLY good at this sort of stuff, aka Tif! She was Miss Super Shopper! She snagged all the items for our giveaways AND a few things more me! Thank you, friend!!
  2. Have a super sleuthing Mother-In-Law who loves a good challenge! Mine found a set of mugs hiding in her local Target’s sporting goods section a few days ago!
  3. Discuss how disappointed you were at Bible Study, and then THOSE ladies start sleuthing for you! Yesterday I got a call from one of my friends and she said she was leaving Target, saw a girl returning a huge bag of Lilly, and just bought it all for me to dig through because she knew I was disappointed! Win!! I’m heading there this morning to take a look!

So, you see ladies, sometimes not standing in line or missing the online event DOES pay off! HA!

Well phew! I feel like that was enough right there for one H54F! HA! But there are a few more highlights…

I had some wonderful hang out time with some sweet friends. We had a girls’ night on Tuesday for pedicures and desserts (side note – I haven’t had a pedicure in 2 years…… I was pretty sure my nail lady was swearing under her breath…. AND had to use some elbow grease to scrub my feet…). And then yesterday we all took our kiddos to our local kids museum and had a bit of a wander. It’s so wonderful to have a group of supportive, fun friends who ALSO have kiddos the same age!

We’ve entered into some weird stage of adulthood…… We bought a mini van. Our current car has been showing signs of death (lots of warning lights that appear, and then magically disappear) so we thought we’d jump on this a little early, before it strands us on the side of the road. It’s a used Chrysler Town & Country, which is the same van (but obviously an older version) that my parents had when I was growing up. I have, essentially, this week, become my parents. We pick it up today. Stay tuned on Instagram for a “What’s in My Van” pic or maybe a Van Tour?

We have an action-packed weekend coming up! Tonight my husband and I are going out on a date, sans Elizabeth! *Happy Dance! We’ll be celebrating his birthday. And then Saturday we have a fun potluck picnic with my Bible Study group. Sunday should be a little quieter, but are still meeting up with friends for dinner. So yay!

Mercy. If you stuck through that ENTIRE ramble, then thank you. Now, let’s link up!

Oh my goodness, I am so jealous of your Lily loot!!
The announced the colab just after I booked my trip to America, otherwise I would have planned around the sale and been right there with ya girl! Instead I am just oogling everyone elses goodies!
Enjoy your weekend, and the date night. 🙂

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

It wasn’t a bad haul considering I really only picked up one item myself HAHA! I’m just not that hard core though when it comes to battling the crowds. 🙂

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I know, right??? The one thing I really wanted the most! She said she worried it was a trap – that someone was going to jump out at her as she picked it up off the shelf. HAHA! But thank you to whomever tucked it in the sporting goods section!

  2. Tina says:

I’m so glad that you found some more Lily stuff throughout the week! What good friends you have! I still haven’t braved Target…. but I’m sure by now there are some items that have been returned that would be great!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

There may be some stuff hanging around. When I was there on Thursday there were just nail polishes…. my friend that picked up a big bag yesterday was at my same Target and she said the Customer Service/returns folks said they basically get stuff returned and it’s bought again, at the returns counter, before they can even get it back out on the shelves. Crazy!!

  3. Tiff says:

HA! I didn’t expect the shelves to be wiped clean either! Those college girls were running past me to get in the store ahead of me. HAHA! Have a wonderful weekend, and you have a new follower on IG! 🙂

  4. Whitney says:

Glad you scored so much Lilly!! Can’t wait to see what your friend found for you. I love hearing stories of ladies working together to help others get pieces they wanted. Congrats on the new van and date night!! Hope it’s a great weekend 🙂

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

That’s sort of the hero of the whole Target saga, isn’t it? Girls trading, sharing, etc for this Lilly stuff! Alas, the stuff my friend snagged didn’t fit right, but it was still so darn sweet that she thought of me! Have a great weekend!

  5. HEATHER says:

Oh I’m tearing up at the bible study friend buying it for you to pick through! That’s just awesome. I’ve definitely done my walks around Target looking every which way just to see what’s hiding and it’s been a fun way to kill a lunch hour.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

The hunt is almost as fun as actually owning the product HA! She was so sweet to think of me! The items she found ended up not fitting right, but still!! I am still blown away she thought of me! So awesome! Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh the Lilly for Target tips made me giggle! I avoided it this time after the insanity that was Missoni for Target a few years ago. I also saw a woman returning a ton of stuff yesterday. I think people buy it hoping it will resell on ebay or to let their friends pick through it. Wish they would put a cap on how much people buy the first day or something so it wasn’t so insane.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Exactly. This was ALL insane. But watching all of this unfold has been a hoot. Glad you liked my tips 😉 I cracked myself up writing them late last night! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Becky G says:

I remember one mani or pedi once the lady was like…. sooo…. how long has it been since you’ve had one? Dude, not everyone can get a mani/pedi once a week! Happy Friday!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

It was so embarrassing, actually. I have really ticklish feet, so I was already on edge. But then I noticed that my girlfriends weren’t getting the true scrub treatment and I was basically getting attacked by a cheese grater. Gross! I gave my lady a big tip HA! And after that I resolved to get a pedicure once a month to avoid that in the future. Have a wonderful weekend!!!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I hear ya! The Katie of 1 year ago wouldn’t even HEAR of buying a minivan. But we rented one for kicks on a vacation last year, and we loved it! I just went out to the van and sat in it, for kicks, and saw a million cup holders! So that’s something 😉 Have a great weekend yourself!

  8. Whitney says:

I’m so happy for your delayed Lilly success…especially that you got those mugs! They are really pretty Enjoy your fun weekend and happy birthday to your hubby!

  9. Anne says:

Hiding in the sporting goods section? Just one of the reasons it’s important to go up and down every row at Target – you just never know what you’ll find 🙂

    Thanks for featuring me!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I was so glad you were picked to feature! How fun. And yes – after my MIL told me that, I went on Wednesday to wander the aisles. I didn’t find any Lilly stuff (still hunting for the napkins!) but I did find a million other things haha!!!

  10. Mariah says:

WHAT?! Yay! I’m so glad you got your mugs! I know they were high on your wishlist. And you have some awesome friends and family hunting for you! I love your car was “showing signs of death” hahaha. I wish my cars were that kind. Can’t wait to see your new ride!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I know!! So lucky my MIL snagged those mugs! I literally danced a little in my yard when I saw the text. I’m sure our new neighbors, who JUST moved in, saw me and thought they lived next door to a spontaneous (horrible) dancer!

  11. Megan says:

You were so much more prepared for Lilly than I was. I’m so happy for you that you snagged all those goods. Secretly, I really want a mini van. I once had to rent one for a long road trip and fell in love with how easy it is to get everything and everyone in. In fact, that was a Town & Country. Okay, now I’m just jealous of you for two things. Hope you enjoyed date night!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Haha that’s exactly how we settled on buying a minivan. We rented a Town & Country on a vacation. And then we were hooked 🙂 And date night was great! Hope you’re having a fun weekend!

  12. Fee says:

Just want to let you know that i’m in the USA right know. Me and my husband are on vacation in New York for 8 days. I have a long shopping list for things/Brands i can’t get in Germany or which are to expensive to buy in Germany. The list had also been inspired by things you had mentioned on your blog, so thank you for that.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Oh how cool!! And sweet, thank you!!! Hope you’re having a fabulous time in New York. What stores will you be visiting? Can’t wait to hear all about your trip!
