Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Tif, Della, and Caitlin! If you want to know more, read about it here!
Don’t forget! The next H54F Hangout on September 24 at 9:30PM EST! That one will be all about blogging! Do you have any questions about blogging you’d like us to chat about? Any tips you want to share?? We’re all learning together, right? Let me know down in the comments below!
This week’s featured blogger is Kelly at Familiar Joy! She’s a wife, mamma to 4 adorable kiddos, and a teacher! Her posts feature all kinds of fun her family has, like the fair recently! I love a good fair. I was also loving her “5 people to have over for dinner” post! She picked so many fun people! I’d definitely agree with having Duchess Catherine over. Wouldn’t that be tons of fun?? Swing by and say hi to Kelly today!!
This week was kind of fast! It was busy and full of fun, but nothing really “H54F” worthy… you know?
Last week I mentioned my husband and I had an epic date coming – going to see Jerry Seinfeld LIVE! And it was such an epic date night, it warrants its own post. So bear with me!
First we headed out to one of our favorite restaurants, Dos Perros. It’s “fancy Mexican food” and oh so good! We both ended up getting vegan enchiladas (but we also added real cheese. Can’t eat enchiladas without cheese).
Then we decided to walk down just a few blocks to the performing arts center. Along the way, I convinced my hubby to snap a few date night OOTD pics, which he was surprisingly ok doing it! I’m trying to convince him to quit the whole medicine thing and just commit to being the full time blog photographer.
I think this was my first time walking in this part of downtown Durham, so there were lots of neat things to stop and look at!
And then it was off to sit in our seats!
Seinfeld was just hilarious!!! We had seen him live in Vegas about 7 or so years ago, so we expected similar jokes and content. But it was all new, which was perfect!
About halfway through the act, this man, one section over, stands up and starts shouting over the laughter “Jerry! Hey Jerry!” And then I thought he asked “Do you know what time it is?”.
Now…. me being FULLY engrossed in the show, just assumed it was all part of the show! Let’s face it – how many scenes in Seinfeld involve a shouting “Hey, Jerry!” line? Many.
But after Jerry’s attention was caught, and all got kind of quiet, the random man shouted again “Do you know what DAY it is?”.
Oh. Gotcha. So you’re not part of the bit?
So now the entire hall is silent. We are all watching Jerry to see what he will say. Because… last Friday was September 11. A pretty solemn day of remembrance. Jerry, no doubt seeing where all this was going, quietly says “September 11”. And Random Man launches into a “shame on you for not acknowledging a national tragedy” routine.
Now, I would have a hard time heckling a heckler in general. I assume that’s a cake walk for a comedian. Hecklers are part of the gig! But a heckler who is heckling about 9/11? How do you bounce back from that???
Thankfully, Jerry didn’t really need to. The audience by this point was so riled up that the shouts of “go home!” or “sit down!” drowned out both the Random Man and Jerry! In fact, at one point, a second Random Man stood up, enraged, and started shouting at the first Random Man, saying he was from NYC, and first Random Man had no idea was he was talking about, so sit down before I make you sit down”
At this point Jerry is on stage, making a few jokes, but what kind of jokes can you make to a heckler that’s upset about 9/11?
Security finally shows up (after a few awkward minutes) and tries to escort Random Man out. But once he breaks free of his row, he bolts for the edge of the balcony! And continues heckling!
They finally get the guy out, everyone settles back down, and Jerry continues on. And it was a great show!!!
So there you go! One of the most epic date nights ever. AND I’m sure Jerry Seinfeld won’t be forgetting Durham, NC anytime soon.
If you ever get a chance to see Jerry Seinfeld live, do it! You won’t regret it.

Well aren’t you just adorable!!
Absolutely perfect Jon Stewart reaction to that situation. Glad Jerry and the rest of the audience handled that well. Sounds like an awesome date night!!
Have a great weekend Katie!!
Haha thanks!! And it was a pretty great date night! If only Jerry could come every week. Have a great weekend yourself!
So cool you got to go see Seinfeld, even with a heckler. We are HUGE Seinfeld fans in this house. Have a great weekend!
Yes! Heckler or no heckler, it was still epic!!
I so wanted to go to that show! Unfortunately, our plans did not allow for it. I cannot stand a heckler. I want to scream get a life at them. HAPPY WEEKEND!
It was a blast! Apparently it was his second visit, so he may be back. As long as the heckler didn’t turn him away. Have a great weekend!
Your date night outfit is so cute! What a fun bag! How exciting that you go to see a comedy legend… although I would have been SO uncomfortable with that heckler!! Have a great weekend!
Thank you!! It didn’t occur to me at first that the heckler was serious! I thought he was a part of the bit. So then once I realized he was a legit heckler, I started saying “oh, this is real??”. So bizzare! Hope you have a great weekend!
That’s so crazy! Sounds like you had a really great date night! I love your outfit! Have a great weekend!

The date night was tons of fun, even with the cra cra heckler 🙂 Have a great weekend too!
What a fun date night! Delicious dinner, great outfit and seeing Seinfeld 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful weekend
Thank you 🙂 Have a great weekend yourself!
Your outfit is so cute! And those enchiladas look so good! Sounds like a kind of crazy date night with the heckler though! I just don’t understand people sometimes. At least the rest of the show was great! Hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you! And the enchiladas were delicious. Especially with a little real cheese 😉
Mexican good is amazing, and that looks so good! Date nights are always so fun especially when it has been awhile. That outfit is perfect too! Have a great weekend!

Thank you!!! And can never go wrong with Mexican food, right?
Love your date night story! What a crazy night a the Seinfeld show! I would be so anxious haha. I also try to convince my husband to take photos and he hates it so much haha. I have to get my better camera fixed so I don’t have to rely on him. great post!

My husband normally resists the posing blog photos too, but he was surprisingly willing. Maybe because it was me that would be the recipient of embarrassment and not him? Who knows! But I’m grateful he snapped some shots 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Your Jerry Seinfeld epic date night sounds like so much fun! I’m in need of an epic date night soon! Haven’t had one in a long time! Have a great weekend!
It was tons of fun, and we decided date nights need to happen more often. They don’t have to be that big every time, but it was so much fun to get out together, just the two of us. Have a great weekend too!
I can’t believe someone would do that at a show. Well, what am I saying, of course I can believe that. People just don’t think. I’m glad it didn’t ruin your time there. Sounds like fun. Jerry has always been a favorite of ours and we still watch reruns. Thanks for hosting.
People are crazy… and he was clearly intoxicated, which I’m sure helped with his bravery 🙂 When we saw Jerry the first time he had a lot of jokes from the show, just updated a little, which was fun. But this time it was all new to us! Hope you’re having a great weekend!
love Jerry Seinfeld! We saw him several years ago, and he was amazing. Love your date night outfit!
Thank you! And it was TONS of fun, despite the interruption. We laughed so much!!
Oh my goodness that would have been crazy! Glad it didn’t ruin your night. He came to College Station this past year and I really hate that we didn’t get a chance to go.
It was tons of fun, so if he swings back through your area, try to go! It was (shamefully) the first thing we’ve gone to in our performing arts center, and we’ve been here 6 years now! But waiting for Seinfeld was worth it 🙂 Hope you’re having a great weekend!
How cool that you got to see Jerry Seinfeld! It says a lot about him that he didn’t make a stink about the heckler, too. And I totally fangirled a little bit seeing that Lucky Strike tower….nope, not a smoker, just a little obsessed with Mad Men. Lol. Hope your weekend was great!
OMG what a night! Haha.
It seriously was so crazy. But tons of fun to watch 🙂 Nothing like watching a train wreck.
Glad you all had a great date night! Love your outfit. And what an interesting side note to the show. I’ve never been to a show with a heckler.

First time heckler watcher here too! It was bizarre, but also entertaining to watch. 🙂
