Last year was my year to hoard/overbuy nail polish! So with the start of the new year, I was itching to pair it all down to the few shades that I actually wear on my nails. I love the idea of a Capsule Wardrobe, so why not a nail polish capsule collection too?
Nail polish for me serves two purposes. First, it’s obviously a great accessory! But second, and more importantly, it slows me down from biting my nails. I’ve been a nail biter since I was a girl, and nail polish keeps me from biting them for at least a day. So it’s actually REALLY important!
Here are the 7 shades I chose to keep and are on heavy rotation on my nails.
Essie in Ladylike | I mentioned this shade as my favorite nail polish from 2015! It’s that perfect greige with a hint of purple. When it’s painted on the nail it is definitely more neutral/office appropriate than the bottle lets on.
Essie in Mademoiselle | This is THE classic sheer nude! When I need some polish but I’m over color on my nails, this is my go to. It’s just a little more polished than bare nails.
Essie in In Stitches | This one is a red tone that’s darker than your average neutral, BUT still absolutely great for every day! When I’m in the mood for some red but not RED, this is my shade.
Essie in Chinchilly | Who doesn’t have Chinchilly? This color cracks me up! Sometimes it’s gray, sometimes it’s purple. When I first paint it on it looks more purple, but then as it dries it’s a lighter gray. It just doesn’t know who it wants to be.
Essie in Double Breasted Jacket | This is my RED shade! Of all the colors it’s not used as much, but it’s such a pretty red for my skin tone that it’s a must have.
Essie in Island Hopping | This is the more purple toned version of In Stitches. If Ladylike is your thing, and you’re wanting something a little darker, might I suggest this one?
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Gray-t Escape (similar) | Even though the name has “gray” in it, it doesn’t come across as gray on my nails. It’s more of a pale, pale Chinchilly. It’s really pretty!
What are some of your go to nail polish colors? Have you paired down your collection recently?
Let me know!

Thanks for sharing all of these colors of nail polish! I like Essie, and I’ve found the colors on the outside of the bottle to be very much like the colors on the inside.
Found you today on Tuesday Talk.
Hope you have a blessed day~

LOVE all of those colors! I have never tried Essie but I hear I am missing out!
Those are such pretty colors! I should send you some Jamberry. I have some friends who have stopped nail biting because of it!
A nail polish capsule–what a great idea!! I have so many polishes, I really need to pair it down. I don’t have any of these shades, though, except for Chinchilly because, you’re right, EVERYBODY has Chinchilly, haha! It’s just such an amazing color!
Ok, so as a nail art girl, I really can’t pick my favorite. I think I have every color possible, but I really like some of the ones you have pictured here. I’ve been really obsessed with grays lately though.

Essie Chinchilly is my jam!
I love those! Especially the first one
That one is my FAV one from the entire set!
Ladylike and Chinchilly are probably two of the best colors Essie has ever made! I swear one of them is on my nails at least once a week. In fact, Ladylike is currently on my nails with the Sally Hansen Matte top coat. (;
They are SO great, aren’t they?? Ladylike is basically on my nails all the time, and then the others get rotated in. But SUCH perfect colors!
Chinchilly is just one of those must-have colors for fall and winter! I can’t believe I haven’t painted my nails with it this season. Love this post, and great pics!

I forgot how much I love it! I need to buy a new bottle. Mine is a little gloopy. But such a great color!
So….this post made me want to go out and buy more polish. Was that your intent? Ha! 🙂 Love those shades – I’ve been wearing all berry and dark red/purples recently, so the lighter neutrals especially look tempting. 🙂
Bahahahaha!!! That’s how I am watching anyone’s haul videos! I go in and out of dark/light phases but I’m really in a light phase now.
These are all so pretty! I really like the Chinchilly. I need to pick that one up sometime soon. I need a good gray.
Love all of these shades! Definitely can’t live without my pinks in the summer and burgundy in the winter though! I am really loving Essie Peak Show for this Spring and my old go-to, Essie Ballet Slippers, a slightly pinker version of your Madmoiselle.

I gave my daughter for Christmas a few of these colors. Chinchilly is her favorite. So pretty. I don’t wear it, but I do like looking at the bottles.
I love the bottles too! Even though I try other brands, there is something satisfying seeing those Essie bottles all lined up neatly together.
