High Five for Friday #184 | When You Try to Purge Toys

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by me, BeckyTif, and Della! Come, read up on what we’ve been up to this week and get to know some amazing bloggers.

Can’t wait to read some more fun things this week!

This week DRAGGED on and on and on and on! Usually, my weeks fly by. But this week? I don’t know why it was a-creeping.

One project I worked on for several days was a giant toy purge! Technically I sorted the keeps and the purges last week, but this week, while Elizabeth was at summer camp, I was determined to get the purges out of the house.

Instead of doing a Goodwill-style drop and run, I opted to post the toys on our local free swap Facebook group! I figured there would be people who would be interested in the various toys I had.

Word to the wise, if you EVER do this, limit yourself to no more than 20 at a time.

I made the mistake of posting over 60 items! It was SO hard to manage! I spent several hours answering comments, figuring out who wanted what, bagging up items, and coordinating pick up times. Thankfully, every person just picked up the items off my front porch, so I didn’t need to drive around town. But still… it was too much.

But now we’re lighter! We had such a backlog of baby toys that we’ve outgrown.

Next up is a little play room makeover and a revamp of our toy swap system!

Another tip, if you’re planning on purging and taking photos of things to post – try not to have a helper! Every single toy I laid out to snap a picture of, William wandered over and said “ooooo! Yay!” haha! I had to crop his feet out of so many pictures!

One of my favorite traditions this summer has been going to the little Hub Farm to pick up our CSA bag! William has got the hang of it now, and we always check on the chickens, ducks and veggies. It’s so sweet watching him zoom around remembering all the fun things. And I enjoy our little walk back to the farm.

Speaking of William, if you don’t have a small hand vacuum at your house, I demand that you order this one from Amazon ASAP. It’s lightweight, easy to clean and charge, and little guys can clean up messes they make when they knock over their big sister’s potted plant. Oops!

Elizabeth has had two fun things recently! She started ballet classes last week! She loves it! But she has also declared that she loves gymnastics more because “I can play on the equipment”. Totally get it. And yes, the ballet studio and hallway is always that messy. The first week I spent the class time throwing away trash. Ick.

She also asked to start reading on her own… now…. I often romanticized the idea of homeschooling. And then we would have a bad day, and I declared “no!”. Well, trying to teach Elizabeth how to read was one of those “no!” moments in the homeschooling debate. BUT, she has been steadily clicking away at reading some old Dick & Jane stories! She has already completed one book, and moved into another one! Truly without much help from parentals. She is just so stinking proud of herself!

In other news, I splurged and bought myself an Apple Watch Series 1 from Walmart. I thought it would be fun to track heart rate, workouts, etc. But now I’ve got a mini-phone on my wrist that bings. Also, I can’t disconnect it from my husband. We share an apple account, which in all other ways is super handy. But now I’m tracking his workouts too! HAHA!

High Five for Friday #183 | When Kids Take Photos

Can’t wait to read some more fun things this week!

We had a fun week around here – can’t believe another week of summer is done and in the books. It’s FLYING!

Sunday was our 11 year wedding anniversary! Thank you all for your sweet comments here and on IG! We celebrated the only way a couple with 2 kids can – take them to the most kid-friendly restaurant so everyone will be happy HAHA! We went to our favorite local diner where the kids dined on eggs and pancakes. But it was fun! When we got home, I asked Elizabeth to take our picture, which provided hilarious results! I was flipping through them and they are all cropped funny or blurry. And then a few pics in we had William join us! HA!

We officially have 6 weeks left of summer vacation. I think this might mean we’re half way now? Crazy! It’s flying by! Elizabeth has 2 of those weeks at her preschool, one of which is next week. I’m planning on sorting and purging through our toys. We’re swimming in baby toys, and we’re now out of that phase. Time to find them new homes.

Speaking of activities, I found this little gem of a photo tucked away from VBS last week. It’s just the cutest!

I only made it over to Burn Boot Camp a few days this week. I got sick in the middle of the week and opted to rest… but I’m so BUMMED I couldn’t get there. Summer colds stink.

Can’t wait to read some more fun things this week!

This Blond’s Shopping Bag // Friday Favorites
Always fun reading a great favorites recap and seeing all the fun everyone has gotten up to the past week. I am especially loving her new flag platter!

Coast to Coast // Friday Favorites – Hair Care Favorites
There are so many good gems, but she’s another person that loves Aquage Uplifting foam! I need to try this…

The Other Side of the Road // Friday Favorites
Tanya shared some great memories, but I love that her son’s choir sang at their local minor league baseball game! What fun!

And now – can’t wait to share with you what we’ve been up to this week!

Last week, on 4th of July, I completely forgot to take photos of the kids in their red white and blue. So on Saturday afternoon, after church, we ran out to the back yard and quickly snapped a few pictures. It was hard getting a good picture from them, but one worked.

I don’t know why Elizabeth never looks right at the camera. She is always staring off in the distance.

This week, Elizabeth has also had another VBS! She has been tickled to do it. Any of your kids doing Rolling River Rampage? Today is the last day. Can’t wait to watch a few songs today at pick up!

The other big news around here is that I signed back up to Burn Boot Camp! I joined 2 years ago, shortly after William was born. I loved it! The workouts were challenging but fun. This week has been hard – I’m so sore! But it also feels great getting back into regular workouts. Look online and see if there is a Burn Boot Camp near you! There is a free 2 week trial to give it a try – give it a shot! I guarantee you have never been to a more friendly, positive environment!

Finally, this Sunday is our 11th wedding anniversary. I can’t believe it! 11 years have flown by, and so many fun adventures have been had. We’ve had 3 moves, new states, lots of medical training (for my husband… although maybe me by proxy), and 2 crazy, fun kids!

And now, it’s time to link up your posts! Can’t wait to cruise around and see what you all have been blogging about!

High Five for Friday #181 | USA! USA!

Can’t wait to read some more fun things this week!

Fourth of July is my #3 favorite holiday!! And this year, Elizabeth was receptive to learning a bit about the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence.

BUT… like a lot of days, I had so much fun this week that I forgot to snap pictures. I actually plan on getting the kids dressed up again in their 4th of July outfits and hauling them outside today to get some photos. HAHA!

Our holiday consisted of fun crafts, a party with friends, and TRYING to catch the downtown Durham fireworks. We thought we timed it all perfectly. We found a grassy hillside where everyone gathers to watch it. But after 30 minutes the fireworks still hadn’t begun. Elizabeth declared she was too tired to wait, so we went home. Apparently, the fireworks didn’t start until close to 10:30pm! But the win from all of that was that William slept in until 9am the next day. He has NEVER slept in his entire life. Yay!

We have had one fun new thing this week – I picked up an inflatable pool! Elizabeth was thrilled to jump right in and play. I basically had to toss William in, unwillingly. But we did have fun.

And my CSA box that was started last week has been fun! I love taking all the veggies and trying to throw them in dishes. My husband wasn’t super excited that I threw squash into his beloved Sunday huevos rancheros, but I thought it was delicious!

Next week brings us to another VBS! This one is in the morning, so we’re picking back up our summer themes the following week. Can’t wait for that one – Art Week!
