Stitch Fix #3 – Box Reveal & A Service Review

A Stitch Fix box reveal AND review of the service.
FYI – this post DOES contain a referral link to Stitch Fix. Meaning if you decided to sign up for Stitch Fix using my referral link, I’ll get a credit in my account. Which is totally awesome! But not expected.

It’s Stitch Fix Box #3 time! If you missed my reviews on box #1 and box #2,ย check it out! And if you don’t know what Stitch Fix is, let me quickly explain:

You tell a stylist what you like in clothes and accessories. That stylist picks out 5 items they think you would like (or maybe push you out of your comfort zone a little) and sends you a box. You try on the clothes, at home, with your existing wardrobe. Keep and pay for what you want, return what you don’t.

So for Box #3, I basically liked everything that I saw right out of the box. I liked the patterns. I liked the colors. And the mix of stuff was great. I also noticed that, for the first time, everything in the box went together, meaning it was a mini capsule wardrobe! You’ll see in a minute with the outfit photos, but I could get quite a few outfits from the 5 pieces.

However, once I started trying everything on, things didn’t fit. Either it was too small (the pants….) or just the wrong shape (the sweater)… so, spoiler alert – I didn’t keep anything.

BUT I liked the idea of everything. I may steal the ideas and try to find similar pieces on my own.

Here’s what I got!

41Hawthorn – Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan – $48 – RETURNED

This color is really pretty, and it goes well with things in the box, but it was way too big. I was sent a medium, and if I was buying this in the store, I would have picked up an XS. I was swimming in this.

Brixon Ivy – Kessie Faux Wrap Dress – $64 – RETURNED

If this fit properly, I would have absolutely kept it. I loved the pattern and color on me, and you can’t go wrong with a wrap dress for easy dressing up or down!

Olive & Oak – Bunbury Sweater – $58 – RETURNED

I liked the idea of this top, but it was just too boxy. It didn’t suit me….

Collective Concepts – Tori Scoop Neck Blouse – $54 – RETURNED

I LOVED this pattern and top right out of the gate the minute I opened the box. I even snapped a pic for Instagram.

I couldn’t wait to try it on. But the shape just wasn’t right on me. Too blousy/boxy but short in length.

Mavi – Mylee Tulip Hem Skinny Jean – $98 – RETURNED

I basically need to write in my profile to not send me pants… I feel like pants are SO hard to pick out for someone else, hoping they will fit. I liked the idea of the pants, but couldn’t get them up past my knees. (Exaggeration, but that’s what it felt like)

But, even though I didn’t keep anything, look how well everything coordinated together! These are just a few outfit ideas, but I could have kept going!

REVIEW TIME!

Since I’ve had three boxes so far, I thought it would be appropriate to do a review thus far of the service! In general, I love the idea! It’s such a neat service, especially if you have small children.

Some reviews I’ve read get hung up on the high price for the quality. It doesn’t bother me much, because I expect to pay a little more for the convenience of the service.

However, I don’t think I’ll continue Stitch Fix. At least not for a while. Maybe I just have a weird body, but so far almost none of the clothes I have received fit right. Either its too small or too big. Or it’s too slouchy. It seems that my time is better spent shopping on my own and trying things on, then wasting a stylist’s time.

Overall, I think in order to make Stitch Fix really be effective for you, you must be dedicated to updating your profile with likes/dislikes, offering feedback to the stylist, and even keeping your Pinterest board up to date with appropriate comments. And really, I don’t have time for that!

What do you think? Have you tried Stitch Fix before? Am I totally off the mark? Let me know!

I love that all of your pieces went together this month but I’m sorry that none of them fit right. I really appreciated your honest review of the Stitch Fix process. It’s always intrigued me, but like you, I think I really need to try on things for myself and don’t have tons of time to keep updating an on-line profile. Maybe you could be your own Katie stylist next month and show us what you picked out for YOURSELF?!?! You always look darling ๐Ÿ™‚

HAHA Thank you Whitney! I actually LOVE that idea! “If I were my own Stitch Fix stylist…” What a fun idea!

I really love the idea of Stitch Fix – I really do! And if I had been having more luck, I really would keep doing it. This last box had a lot of stuff that I really liked. It’s just nothing really fit. Oh well…

I think it’s fun to get random things sent to me… but I only do it as the seasons change. For me, I do it for fun and not to actually GET anything out of it. Which, ok… I do, but at the same time, I expect to not like anything. ๐Ÿ˜›
I don’t think I could ever use the service as my only means of shopping for clothing, that’s just silly.

Love that dress, though. Sorry the color was wrong.

I like that approach! I think I’ll do that instead. I agree – the random assortment of stuff is what’s appealing to me. And I always hope for something that I wouldn’t pick out myself, but ends up being perfect. This box really was perfect from a color/pattern perspective. Just nothing that was a great fit.

Glad for your honest review. I actually love shopping for clothes, so I don’t think Stitch Fix is appealing to me with someone else doing the shopping! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Thanks! And yes haha! I get that! I love shopping too, but for me it’s easier to restrict myself when someone else is doing the shopping and limiting me to 5 items!

I do love the colors of everything and it’s too bad nothing fit right. Then again, that sometimes happens when I order anything on line. Even if you didn’t keep anything, like you said, it made you consider keeping an eye out for something similar, so not a waste. That pink purse is really cute.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

Yes! I figured it was a win win. Sure, didn’t keep anything, but gave me great ideas. If everything fit I would have bought the whole thing!

  5. Beth says:

I have never tried Stitch Fix but I really don’t have a desire too. The price for one and I see so many people have the same fit problems you experience. This was a really great box though (I’ve seen some bad ones). To bad things didn’t fit better.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

It was my best box yet. But so far I’ve only purchased one thing from 3 boxes…. meh. It’s just wearing me down.

Omg I LOVE your whole box, way more than any boxes I’ve ever gotten! Clearly I need you to fill out my profile for me! hahaha Seriously, though, that dress is gorge and so is the tank top. I’m so sad none of them worked out for you!

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

I’m so sad too! It was such a winner box, but it was so sad to have to send them all back. The box was basically the perfect “Katie” box. Oh well…

We need to make a friend pact–if you ever sell that pink bag, I get first dibs on buying.

Not that’s out of the way, let’s talk Stitch Fix. I’ve enjoyed reading your reviews, but I am all over the place when it comes to clothing sizes. Also, sometimes I prefer to size down in an item and sometimes I prefer to size up. So I think that would drive me crazy too.

    • Katie @ Cup of Tea says:

HAHA You have a deal. ๐Ÿ™‚

And YES! That’s exactly my issue with this. For example, I loved the blue sweater, BUT if I was buying it in the store, I would have grabbed an XS, not a M. But because M is on the profile, they sent that. I get it’s hard to guess what size I may like, but it’s hard. I think that’s where my disappointment has been but they really can’t help that.
