Menu Monday #45 + An Old Menu Redo

ListCloseUp

Hello Monday! I’m getting back into the groove of things after being away all weekend. Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

I was digging through old Spring/Summer menus (I keep my printables if they were a particularly good week!) and saw the below’s week menu was what I used this week LAST year! So, naturally, I had to repeat.

For Mother’s Day this year, we still aren’t exactly sure what we want to do, but I know it has to involve eating out! Last year we went out to breakfast at my favorite place, and then picked up Mexican take out for dinner. We may have to repeat that too this time.

If you haven’t seen a Menu Monday post before, I share what we’ll be eating this week. (You can see how I generally menu plan here) I also try to include links to recipes where I can. Although some weeks are just DIY (open a can of this, saute that).

Monday:
Creamy Tomato Basil Pasta with Spinach

Tuesday:
Tex Mex Bean Quinoa Casserole

Wednesday:
Mac & Cheese Spaghetti Squash Bake

Thursday:
Chana Masala

Friday:
Kale, Black Bean & Avocado Burrito Bowls
(just can’t get enough of these!!)

Saturday:
Caprese Paninis

Sunday:
Mother’s Day!!

High Five for Friday + A Car With Magic Doors

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Caitlin, Tif and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

This week’s featured blogger is Claire from Fashion + Feathers! She has a fun fashion sense AND she’s hilarious! Her H54F post last week made me laugh snort several times. That’s my favorite blog combo – clothes and funnies! Swing over and say hi!!

Here are my 5 highlights from the week! And Happy May 1!

1. Well, folks, we have a minivan. And it’s revolutionized our life. There are 10 cup holders. “Magic” doors that automatically open at the push of a button, which make Elizabeth say “wow”. And I can see for miles, because I’m sitting higher than others. *angels singing* Seriously, though, it is nice to have the van. I may have giggled the first day I drove it, feeling like my parents, BUT we are grateful to have it, especially with summer vacation trips coming up.

High Five For Friday with a Magic Door

2. I tackled a project that’s been on my to-do list for quite a while – I did a massive closet purge. I usually do this every summer and winter, and I shared my summer purge and clean out tips last year with you all.  But THIS time I had an urge to get rid of a TON. And it was therapeutic. While my intent wasn’t to necessarily have a “capsule wardrobe” I may have ended up with one. So who’s ready for a summer 30 Outfits in 30 Days – the 2015 version? I’m motivated!

3. I’ve been reading quite a bit lately. It’s been relaxing to pick up a book and read for 30 minutes before tackling another task. I’m finishing up a quick read book The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory (love a good historical fiction book), and up next is Emma: A Modern Retelling. I’m REALLY excited for this one. The book is as the title suggests: it’s the classic tale of Emma, but set in modern day. I normally don’t touch these redos of Jane Austen tales with a 10 foot pole. BUT this one was written by Alexander McCall Smith, and I adore any of his books, but especially the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series. So I have high hopes!

4. I love a good TV show. And in just ONE week I cruised through all 13 episodes of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It was HILARIOUS! It was quirky, funny, and fast paced. What more do you need in a binge-watching show?

5. I feel like I always end with a future thing, but we’re heading to the Outer Banks again! My husband has a conference to attend, and thankfully that conference pays for family to attend! So while we won’t spend much time together, I’m looking forward to relaxing and having Elizabeth play in the sand, in warm weather, instead of a repeat of our identical trip 2 months ago!

Stitch Fix #2 – What I Got and Didn’t Keep

Showing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each itemFYI – this post DOES contain a referral link to Stitch Fix. Meaning if you decided to sign up for Stitch Fix using my referral link, I’ll get a credit in my account. Which is totally awesome! But not expected.

It’s Stitch Fix Box #2 time! If you missed my review of box #1, check it out! And if you don’t know what Stitch Fix is, let me quickly explain:

You tell a stylist what you like in clothes and accessories. That stylist picks out 5 items they think you would like (or maybe push you out of your comfort zone a little) and sends you a box. You try on the clothes, at home, with your existing wardrobe. Keep and pay for what you want, return what you don’t.

I received this box over the weekend, and (*SPOILER ALERT!) you’ll notice that ALL of the pictures are just shots of the clothes on the floor… none of me wearing them. I basically didn’t really love anything…. I liked the idea of a few things, but not enough to buy them… a bit of a disappointment. But considering all the fun Lilly stuff I bought a few weeks ago, my budget was happy!

But I really wasn’t motivated to photograph any outfits.

Sorry for being a Debbie Downer.

Anyway, let’s just get right down to the items, shall we?

1. Kut From the Kloth – Callie White Denim Jacket – $78 – RETURNED

Sharing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each item

This denim jacket was one of the few things that I could have kept. Who doesn’t love a good denim jacket? But then I got thinking about little hands that may have just finished eating yogurt… or black beans… or goldfish crackers… and imagined said white jacket covered with little hand prints. Plus, I already have a regular denim jacket, and couldn’t justify a second in my wardrobe right now. So I returned it.

2. Pixley – Lionel Striped Embroidered Tank – $38 – RETURNED

Showing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each item

I’ll be honest – I didn’t even really want to try this on. I saw it sitting in the box and thought “meh….”. The colors look better in this picture than in real life. The yellow was more mustard than cheery. And it’s really just a casual shirt that IF I wanted, I could find at Target. Or Khols. But I gave it a shot. And I returned it. It didn’t float my boat.

3. Fun2Fun – Clarise Mixed Print Tank – $38 – RETURNED

Showing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each item

The print on this shirt was pretty! But it was too blousy for me. AND it was too short. So even if I loved it, but asked for a smaller size, I’d still have a short shirt issue, which bugs me.

4. Papermoon – Waters Printed Maxi Dress – $68 – RETURNED

Showing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each item

This maxi dress… I think this is the one thing were people will be shouting at their computers saying “KEEP IT! KEEP IT!”. Maxi dresses always look so comfortable and easy. And this was! But I’m not a maxi dress girl. It made me feel and look really short. It was comfortable! The fabric was lightweight and the kind that would wash easily and come out wrinkle free. Win! But I didn’t love it on. So why keep it?

5. Just Black – Aaron Distressed Skinny Jeans – $78 – RETURNED

Showing what a typical Stitch Fix box contains, as well as prices for each item

I liked the idea of a distressed straight leg jean. These are like the “cool girl” version of me. But they couldn’t get up past my hips…. and really would have liked them in a darker color. But I’m just not a “cool girl”. I’d just look like I was trying to hard, right?

So that’s it! Yep, didn’t keep a thing, but don’t think was completely off base. I have in my profile that I like printed/patterned tops and love jackets. I also think the maxi came because I requested a patterned skirt this time.  I also felt like the prices were reasonable. But overall, not a win.

I’ll be skipping next month’s box because we are out of town a lot in May and hate to mess up returning the items.

If you want to learn more about getting your own Fix, you can check it out here. FYI – that link is a referral link/code, so that if you choose to sign up, I get a credit.

What do you think? What would you have kept? Think I made the right decision?

High Five for Friday + a Lilly for Target Lessons Learned Recap

H54F - A weekly link up, hosted by Cup of Tea, Bright on a Budget, Coffee with Caitlin & Della Devoted

Welcome to High Five for Friday – hosted by Katie, Caitlin, Tif and Della! If you want to know more, read about it here!

Just right off the bat – you can still enter a Lilly for Target Giveaway! Go enter now!! And then come right back! This ends TONIGHT (Friday)!!

This week’s featured blogger is Anne at In Residence! If you’re a regular reader here, the name probably sounds familiar! Just recently, I have been linking up with her Your Spring Style series. Anne and I have been blogging buddies for a while now! She’s on of my daily blog reads. We also have husbands who are in the throws of medicine residencies (her hubby is almost done!!) AND our kiddos are just days apart. Anne has regular series on capsule wardrobes, books she’s currently reading (I basically add each one to my library reading list), and a fun Pin to Present series! Go over and say hi!!

Anyway, here’s what I was up to this week!

1. Lilly for Target. Can we have a collective sigh? I wasn’t all that successful…. I basically missed the whole online part because the site was down, and when I decided to show up at Target 2 minutes after the store opening, everything was gone! But somehow, one week later, I’ve got a lot of stuff now! I think, now that the dust has settled, I have: 1 toddler dress, 1 clutch, 1 makeup bag, 1 nail polish, 1 shift dress, 1 bracelet AND THE MUGS! (Which is really what I wanted out of everything!)

What I got from Lilly for Target

When a big shopping event comes along, here are my tips that have worked for me:

  1. Employ a friend that’s REALLY good at this sort of stuff, aka Tif! She was Miss Super Shopper! She snagged all the items for our giveaways AND a few things more me! Thank you, friend!!
  2. Have a super sleuthing Mother-In-Law who loves a good challenge! Mine found a set of mugs hiding in her local Target’s sporting goods section a few days ago!
  3. Discuss how disappointed you were at Bible Study, and then THOSE ladies start sleuthing for you! Yesterday I got a call from one of my friends and she said she was leaving Target, saw a girl returning a huge bag of Lilly, and just bought it all for me to dig through because she knew I was disappointed! Win!! I’m heading there this morning to take a look!

So, you see ladies, sometimes not standing in line or missing the online event DOES pay off! HA!

Well phew! I feel like that was enough right there for one H54F! HA! But there are a few more highlights…

I had some wonderful hang out time with some sweet friends. We had a girls’ night on Tuesday for pedicures and desserts (side note – I haven’t had a pedicure in 2 years…… I was pretty sure my nail lady was swearing under her breath…. AND had to use some elbow grease to scrub my feet…). And then yesterday we all took our kiddos to our local kids museum and had a bit of a wander. It’s so wonderful to have a group of supportive, fun friends who ALSO have kiddos the same age!

We’ve entered into some weird stage of adulthood…… We bought a mini van. Our current car has been showing signs of death (lots of warning lights that appear, and then magically disappear) so we thought we’d jump on this a little early, before it strands us on the side of the road. It’s a used Chrysler Town & Country, which is the same van (but obviously an older version) that my parents had when I was growing up. I have, essentially, this week, become my parents. We pick it up today. Stay tuned on Instagram for a “What’s in My Van” pic or maybe a Van Tour?

We have an action-packed weekend coming up! Tonight my husband and I are going out on a date, sans Elizabeth! *Happy Dance! We’ll be celebrating his birthday. And then Saturday we have a fun potluck picnic with my Bible Study group. Sunday should be a little quieter, but are still meeting up with friends for dinner. So yay!

Mercy. If you stuck through that ENTIRE ramble, then thank you. Now, let’s link up!
